Donald H. “Chipper” Yeomans II, 77, of Camillus, passed away Thursday, peacefully, at home. Born in Syracuse, he was a 1962 graduate of Cathedral High School and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit where he starred on the baseball and basketball teams. He spent countless hours perfecting his baseball swing and was known throughout the community for his intelligence and strength.
When he returned to Syracuse, Donald played baseball with the Syracuse Junior Chiefs and worked for Wilson Sporting Goods. The last 20 years of his career were spent with the City of Syracuse Water Department. Never one to be idle, he volunteered at the Assumption Church Food Pantry, worked in retail merchandising, exercised at Pine Grove Country Club, and played golf wherever he could find enough space to hit a ball. He cherished his family and walking the many dogs that came into his life.
Donald was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Helen Yeomans; sister, Lynn Forsythe; and brother, Jeffrey Yeomans.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former JoAnne DeJohn; daughter, Audra Yeomans of Los Angeles, CA; son, Donald H. Yeomans III of Chicago, IL; sisters, Karen (Norman) Eilert of CA, Leslie Walker of Syracuse and Ella "Missy" (Scott) Zimmerman of FL; and brothers, Michael (Jenni) of Jacksonville, FL, Billy (Mary) of Syracuse and Jay (Cathy) of Charlotte, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, February 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
