Dolores Hart Chaney, formerly of Syracuse, passed away on November 11, 2020, at the age of 79. Born in Syracuse in 1941, she began her education at The Convent School, an all-girls’ Catholic school, before graduating from West Genesee High School in 1959. A lifelong harpist, Dolores discovered her passion for the instrument at a young age while studying at the Clark Music Company. During her high school years, she served as the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, the “Wildcat”, and was affectionately recognized in the "Who's Who" section of her senior yearbook as one of the "biggest flirts."
Dolores was a woman of many talents. In addition to her love of the harp, she was also a skilled pianist. After attending dog grooming school, Dolores opened her business, Poodle Parlor West, in the late 1960s. Following her move to California in 1981, she pursued studies in real estate and also gained experience as a bartender.
For over 20 years, Dolores was an award-winning and accomplished real estate agent, working with several major homebuilders across Southern California. She was particularly passionate about helping first-time homebuyers achieve their dream of owning a new home.
Dolores was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in cooking for her grandchildren, exploring estate and garage sales with her two daughters, and decorating her beautiful homes with antiques. She also had a deep love for dancing and traveling, passions that enriched her life and brought her happiness.
Dolores was predeceased by her father, Lester Hart; mother, Florence Hart; and brothers, Robert and Gerald Hart.
Surviving are her daughters, Colleen (Dave) Lakshin of Riverside, CA, and Kellie (Charley) Richards of Clarksville, TN; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Jane) Hart of Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear lifelong friends.
Dolores passed away on November 11, 2020, in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, during the pandemic, with her cherished poodle, Coco, by her side. Her family will bring her home to Syracuse to honor her memory with a funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
Dolores will be laid to rest beside her beloved mother at St. Agnes Cemetery, Syracuse.
