David T. Hayes, 72, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. Born in Rochester, he made the Syracuse area his home in 1975, building a life centered on family, faith and community.
A 1971 graduate of Pembroke High School, David continued his education at CCBI, earning his degree in 1973, and later graduated from the National College of Business in Rapid City, SD, in 1975. He was a trailblazer in the cable television industry, beginning his career at North American Philips before playing a pivotal role in the founding of Production Products Company. After his time at PPC, David went on to establish his own business, Solvay Plastics, which he proudly owned and operated for over 12 years. He later worked delivering routes for FedEx Ground, followed by DHL Express, and then Pepperidge Farm. He retired in 2019 from GDI Integrated Facility Services, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, entrepreneurship and dedication.
A devout communicant and faithful usher at St. Joseph’s Church, David found joy in his spiritual community. He also had a passion for travel, enjoying trips across the U.S. and cherishing the memories made along the way.
David was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Hayes.
Surviving are his “first wife so far” (and only) of 44 years, the former Patricia Lytle; daughter, Danielle (Michael) Rowland of Baldwinsville; sons, Thomas and Nicholas, both of Syracuse; grandchildren, Taylor and Ethan Rowland; sisters, Patricia Pflazer of Columbus, OH and Colleen (Richard) Falker of Batavia; brother, Timothy Hayes of Corfu; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
