Daniel Henry Cook, 88, of Camillus, ascended to Heaven to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born in Alexandria Bay, he lived in LaFayette before moving to Camillus in 2000. A veteran, Dan served with the US Army Air Corps as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles" from 1943 to 1946. He worked for the New York State Canals as captain of the "Old Hyd #5" and retired in 1982 as floating plant supervisor after 31 years of service. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening but most of all loved his family and grandchildren. Dan was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Helen Tolone and Agnes Moore. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Gloria Schupp; daughter, Linda Kelly of Tennessee; son, Daniel (Cindy) of Marietta (our primary caretakers); granddaughter, Jeanne (Anthony) Lema of Skaneateles (our guardian angel); and several additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ralph Tolone of Warners; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Diane at Lincare for her wonderful care of Daniel and the support she provided for the family. Services will be private. Daniel will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Food Bank of CNY, 7600 Interstate Island Rd., Syracuse, NY 13209. www.foodbankcny.org
