Clarence E. “Kan” Bushnell, 88, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Sunday at McHarrie Place. Born and raised in Solvay, he proudly served his country in WW II, receiving two Purple Hearts for his service. Kan marched ashore at Omaha Beach with the 2nd Infantry on June 7, 1944 and after participating in the D-Day Invasion, he and the 2nd Infantry continued through France and Belgium, entering Germany on October 3, 1944. After the war, Kan graduated from Syracuse University and married the love of his life, Doris Duprey, on August 6, 1945. They lived in Camillus for more than 60 years. An engineer for Robson & Woese, Kan retired in 1989 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed playing bridge and spending many winter months in Myrtle Beach. An avid golfer, he was a member of Tuscarora Golf Club for 51 years. Kan was a proud, caring and determined man, as well as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Doris; daughter, Dorinda (Ted) Raby of Baldwinsville; sons, Dan (Naoko) of Kanazawa, Japan, and Dave (Patty) of Onondaga Hill; grandchildren, Jason, Jillian, David and Ian Bushnell and Christopher Raby; and brother, George of Eastwood. The family wishes to thank the staffs of McHarrie Life and Silver Fox Senior Social Club, and Yolanda Fero for their compassionate care for Kan. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Kan’s life will be held at McHarrie Place at a later date. Interment will be at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kan’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204. Dad, we will miss you, we love you, and you will always be in our hearts.
