Charles “Chip” Michael Grosso, 74, of Westvale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, with his family by his side. Born and raised in Syracuse, he was the third son of John “Edward” and Dorothy “Anne” Grosso.
Chip retired from Wegmans in 2012 after 35 years of working throughout the company in various managerial positions. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and was a longtime communicant of St. Charles–St. Ann's Parish.
As a loving and caring husband and father, Chip took great pleasure in helping to raise his three daughters. For them, he was an ever-present source of strength and support. Chip instilled in them a strong work ethic and the importance of caring for others. He kept his family close throughout his life and, in the last few years, welcomed two grandsons whom he loved dearly and who, in turn, adored their “Papa.”
Chip was an avid walker throughout his Westvale neighborhood and a cyclist on many of the local trails. He enjoyed vacationing with his family on Lake Ontario at Fair Haven Beach State Park, and on Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks. He loved his home, and tending to his yard and gardens was his passion, as was cooking for his family.
Chip was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Gerald and Edward.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, the former Kathleen “Kate” Applin; daughters, Sarah (Charles Terotta) Grosso, Margaret “Maggie” (Michael) Pitaro, and Claire (Timothy) Cleary; grandsons, Nicholas and Jack Pitaro; brother, Daniel (Ann) Grosso; sisters-in-law, Linda and Cynthia Grosso, and Sandra (Ray) Buchanan; brother-in-law, Thomas Applin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To celebrate Chip’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather Friday, April 25, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. in St. Charles–St. Ann's Parish, 501 S. Orchard Rd., Syracuse.
Chip will be laid to rest in Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse.
