Cecelia E. Fitzgerald, 79, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at University Hospital. Born in Syracuse, she lived in Aurora, CO for 10 years before coming back to the Syracuse area. Cecelia was a graduate of West Genesee High School and earned her master's degree from St. Joseph's College of Nursing and School of Research in New York. She was employed with St. Joseph's Hospital for 50 years before retiring in 2011 and previously worked at HealthStream. She was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Cecelia was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and Holy Family Church. She had a very strong faith and deep love of God. Cecelia had a passion for gardening, enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her family, nursing classmates and grandchildren.
Cecelia was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 2020.
Surviving are her sons, Patrick (Danielle Kirkpatrick) of Westvale, James of Camillus and Mark (Vicki Millick) of Dryden; sister, Judith (Bill) Peabody of Upper Jay; brother, David (Mary Ann) Huzarwicz of Severna Park, MD; grandchildren, Christine (Paul) Knudsen, Erin, Jaime, Kye, Clare and Griffin Fitzgerald; and several nieces.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, January 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Face coverings are required.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, January 12 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Cecelia will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
