Catherine "Katie" Carroll Hackett

December 4, 1928 — February 13, 2022

Catherine “Katie” Carroll Hackett, 93, formerly of Camillus, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022. Born and raised in Syracuse, she lived in Camillus until moving to Hamilton, NJ in 2001. She spent winters in Sterling Village, Boynton Beach, Florida. A graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School, Katie attended Syracuse University. She was employed by New York Telephone Co. for 10 years and formerly worked for Syracuse University. Katie was a yoga instructor for many years in the Syracuse and Camillus area, including West Genesee School District, Pine Grove Athletic Club and Westhill (BOCES Program).

A communicant of St. Gregory's Church in Hamilton, Katie was a member of the funeral choir. She was also active in Hamilton’s and Washington's Senior Centers and served on bocce teams at both centers. She was a member of Robert Wood Johnson Wellness Center and Ancient Order of Hibernians Auxiliary. Katie was a long-time communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church and also a former communicant of St. Joseph's Church where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, soloist, cantor and member of the Alpha Choir. A member of SU Orange Pack, she also served on the board of Guild Fashionata Professional Models and was director of Ms. Sr. America Pageant in Upstate NY. She was an entertainer with the Corinthian Club's Wagon Wheel programs, the "Happy Tappers," "Sprockettes" and Onondaga Hill's "Our Town Tappers.” Katie also served on the board of Hospice Auxiliary, was a former member of Tuscarora Golf Club and Camillus Elks Auxiliary and long-time volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Katie was a supporter of Hope for Bereaved, Vera House, Hospice, Alzheimer’s and Most Holy Rosary School.

Katie was predeceased by her husband, Richard “Rip” Hackett, in 2003; and daughter, Susan M. Hackett in 1988.

Surviving are her daughters, Sharon (Doug) Mikula of Marietta, GA and Kathleen (Rob) Zurich of Livermore, CA; sons, Stephen (Stephanie) Hackett of Carolina Shores, NC and Patrick (Heidi) Hackett of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; grandchildren, Matt (Lindsey) and Ryan Hackett, Jonathan (Jamie), Jacqueline (Bryce) Allen, Michael and Robert Mikula, and Annelise, John, Connor and Joseph Hackett; great-grandchildren, Landon, Caroline, Alexander, Logan and Luke Hackett, Benjamin Mikula, Jackson, Elijah, and Rachael Marie Allen; sister, Helen Gould of Baldwinsville; brother, William (Kathie) Carroll of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 26, at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Katie will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
