Catherine Margaret (Meagher) James

Catherine Margaret (Meagher) James, 101, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at home. Born in Ogdensburg, she moved to Syracuse when she was one year old. Catherine was a 1935 graduate of St. Lucy's Academy and attended Powelson Business Institute. She was employed with Merchants National Bank for 16 years before retiring in 1986, and previously worked for the WPA before getting married. She also volunteered at the Van Duyn library for over 15 years. A daily communicant of St. Michael's Church, Catherine was active in the Funeral Guild, Altar & Rosary Society and rummage sales. She was an avid SU basketball fan, enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and was a lifelong Bridge player up until the age of 96. Catherine's greatest accomplishment and joy in life was her family. She especially loved spending time with them and attending her grandchildren's events. She was proud to have made it to ten of her grandchildren's weddings.

The family would like to thank her wonderful caregiver Becky Pierce, Hospice, Dr. John Charles, PA Mike Pesci and Dr. William Berkery for their compassionate care given to Catherine over the years.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; parents, Ed and Josie; and son, Larry James.

Surviving are her daughters, Jo Ann (Nik) Berrong of Ft. Collins, CO, Nancy (David) Zanoni of Syracuse and Mary Lou (Robert) Lake of Syracuse; sons, Robert (Linda) James and Rev. David James, both of Syracuse; daughter-in-law, Carole James of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and canine companion, Jaime.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, August 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 16 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Catherine will be laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
