Camillus

Carolyn B. Haas, 87, of Camillus, NY, passed away Saturday, July 15 at the Vineyard Inn in Seminole, FL. She was born in Cambridge, MA, and was the only child of Rev. Herbert Malcolm and Fern Burgess, Nazarene pastor and wife in the Canadian Maritimes. As a child, Carolyn learned piano by watching her “mum” and carried a deep love for music throughout her life. She could often be heard singing praises or sharing her love of the Lord with anyone in need. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Nazarene College, Carolyn married John W. Lunden and moved to Camillus, NY, where she raised her three children. Dedicating much of her life to serving Christ Community Church of the Nazarene (Immanuel Church of the Nazarene), she was an organist for over 50 years, a board member for several years, and an active participant in vital church life. Carolyn was also the manager of Sofa & Chairs in Camillus, NY, for many years and later enjoyed working at The Medicine Shoppe as a pharmacy assistant. She had a servant's heart and served others with joy. Her family recalls her home as one of love and comfort with the tea kettle always on, ready to welcome anyone who stopped by. It wasn't uncommon to find Carolyn in the living room around the piano or organ singing with her family. She found joy in sweet simple moments of life, sitting on the porch, tending to flowers, reading, and having conversations deep into the night. Her greatest joy was her family; she held any moment with them as precious.

Carolyn is predeceased by her second husband, Eugene; parents, Herbert Malcolm and Fern (Barnard) Burgess; and granddaughters, Elisabeth Orndorff and Kelsey Lunden.

Surviving are her children, John (Judy) Lunden, Deborah (Myron) Lew, David (Rose) Lunden, and Eugene (Terri) Haas; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Elijah Lunden, Adalyn (Robert) Whittaker, Mackenzie Lunden, Aiyana (Scott) Shields, Maia Lew, Dominique (Steve) Fortino, Jonah, Michaela, and Jonathan Lunden, Amanda Hopkins, Michael Haas, Ellie Haas, and Eugene Haas III; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling hours for relatives and friends will be held Saturday, July 29 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Christ Community Church of the Nazarene. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the church.

Carolyn will be laid to rest in Elbridge Rural Cemetery, Elbridge, NY.
