Caroline Jean Sausman, 79, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26. Born and raised in Montana, she moved to Alaska at 16, becoming a graduate of East Anchorage High School and the University of Alaska, where she received her Bachelor of Nursing degree. Caroline worked as a licensed hairdresser in Alaska for many years before becoming a nurse. She spent 25 years as a nurse, predominantly in Infection Control at the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Caroline moved to the Syracuse area in 2007. An avid reader, she also enjoyed a multitude of crafts, including sewing and embroidery. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Caroline was predeceased by her husband, William; parents, Dan and Wilma McLean; and grandson, Ryan Pitcher.
Surviving are her daughters, Kim Brown and Dawn (Brian) Macholl; sister, Verna Holland; brother, Jim McLean; grandchildren, Brandon (Nicole) Pitcher, and Mariah and Josh Macholl; great-grandchildren, Molly, Kent, and Aiden Pitcher; and several nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, 800 Irving Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13210.
