Carol Anne (Freeman) Vaikness, 80, of Camillus, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Crouse Hospital. Born in Syracuse, she grew up in Ithaca and moved back to Syracuse where she graduated in 1955 from Solvay High School. She lived in the Camillus area since 1968.
Carol was a receptionist with Dr. Richard Craybas and previously worked at Price Chopper. She loved the outdoors and traveling. Carol was a Girl Scout leader, softball coach, member of the Folks March and officer at the Octagon House. She was the first woman to serve on the Camillus Youth Hockey Board. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, George; daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Szkotak of Austin, TX and Bonnie (Tim) Mullane of Camillus; sons, David of Pleasant Hill, CA and Stephen (Gengy) of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Carol, Kyle, Luke, Stephen, Kristen, Joey, Omar, Timothy, Anna and Brigid; great-grandchildren, Christian, Nolan, Carly, Joey and Isabela; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, January 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 6 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
