Beverley J. (Merrithew) Kelly

Beverley J. (Merrithew) Kelly, 73, of Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away on March 22, 2017 after a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Syracuse prior to retiring to Florida in 2006. Beverley graduated from Central High School and earned her master’s degree in social work from Syracuse University. She began her career as director of the Rape Crisis Center in 1985 and went on to serve as the director of Huntington Family Center from 1988 to 2005. Beverley devoted her career to advocating for families in need and worked tirelessly to secure funding for community programs which benefited westside neighborhoods.

Beverley was predeceased by her parents, Roger and Jeanne Merrithew; and brother, Roger Merrithew Jr.

Surviving are her loving husband of 28 years, James Kelly Sr.; daughter, Christine (Andrew) Reichel of Marcellus; son, Patrick O’Connor of Syracuse; step-children, Deborah Lauricella of Brewerton and James Kelly Jr. of West Monroe; grandchildren, Jillian and Lauren Reichel, John, James and Trisha Kelly and Edward and Rachel Lauricella; brother, Lawrence (Joanne) Merrithew of Auburn; and sister Cynthia (Robin) Merrithew of Rochester.

Beverley will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She was an avid reader who entertained us all with her remarkable wit.

Calling hours will be Monday, April 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A memorial service will follow at the funeral home.
