Barbara (Grier) Dodd, 96, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at home, surrounded by her loving family. A graduate of Central High School, Barbara was employed for over 25 years at Onondaga Beverage Company before retiring in 1988. Barbara was a volunteer at Community General Hospital and a member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, where she served in many positions.
From her youngest days, Barbara loved to dance. She and her sister, Jane would roll up the rug in the living room and teach their Roosevelt Junior High friends the latest steps. As a young woman, her dance card was always full.
Barb was a gracious hostess, she loved to entertain family and friends. It's no wonder that many of her parties are now considered legendary.
Barbara, a beauty herself, appreciated the beauty the world offers. She lived her life with purpose, dignity, humor and kindness. She was a loving mother and doting grandmother. Her grandchildren adored her.
Barbara will be remembered as an extraordinary woman with an open mind and a generous spirit. She will be missed.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Richard L. Dodd, in 1999; son, Richard G. Dodd, in 1996; sister, Jane Dauenhauer, in 1982; and brother, William Grier, in 1988.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen (William) Copich of Syracuse; sons, James (Kathleen Cerro) of Fayetteville and Jon of Constantia; grandchildren, Joshua, Luke, Lilly and Eroll Dodd, Sarah Wilcox, Jonathan, Thomas and Jake Copich, Katelyn Edwards and Morgan Gerlach; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Carter and Logan Dodd, Grace and Olivia Edwards and Harrison Gerlach; and several nieces and nephews.
