Barbara D. Ahern, 76, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Watertown on Saturday, July 7, 1934, she lived on Howlett Hill Rd. for 42 years. Barbara enjoyed cooking and doing crafts. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Kim J. Ahern; parents, Caroline Short Blair and Clarence “Edward” Blair; sons, Dirk T. Ahern and Shannon E. Ahern; and sister, Joan Cunningham. Surviving are her daughters, Katrina "Tina" (Steven Squires) Ahern of Auburn and Pamela (Michael) LaVarnway of Union Springs; son, Kim F. (Sharon) Ahern of Syracuse; daughter-in-law, Teresa Ahern of Marcellus; grandchildren, Danielle Ahern, Jennifer (Justin) Heath, Holly Harris, Heather Harris, Shannon (Leslie) Ahern Jr., Brian Ahern, Brandon Ahern, Shawn Harris, Michael L. LaVarnway Jr. and Jonathan LaVarnway; great-grandchildren, Tyrianna Richards, Adrianna, Julianna and Gabriella Skutt, Ryan and Kamryn Heath, Devin Carruthers, Abigail Ahern and Shannon Ahern III; sisters, Margaret (James) Blandford of Syracuse and Judith (Al) Minahan of Hastings; several nieces and nephews; and her canine companion, Daisy Mae. Relatives and friends may call Friday, May 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Barbara will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Barbara to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
