Barbara A. Schramm, 92, a long-time resident of Camillus, died on May 26, 2021 at Crouse Hospital, after a short illness. She attended Syracuse University where she met and subsequently married her beloved husband, Hank W. Schramm, who predeceased her. They enjoyed 61 wonderful years together.
Among her many interests, Barbara actively advocated for animals and rescued many cats and kittens during her lifetime. She also supported several animal rescue organizations in Syracuse and Central New York. An avid gardener, she enjoyed tending to her flowers, trees and plants and was a strong proponent of organic gardening. She and Hank had been active Nascar and Dirt Track racing fans and enthusiasts, Barbara also enjoyed zipping around Syracuse in her beloved green MG Midget sports car, with her signature scarf wafting in the breeze. She attended Modified Dirt car races, a favorite pastime, armed with statistics that Barbara would recite, without hesitation.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Barbara was the youngest child of Leona Wingard Nolting and Harold Carlton Nolting, sister to Dean Nolting and Burdell C. Greaves, all have predeceased her. Barbara is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as her devoted friend and neighbor, Maryanne Dowling. Westside Community Chapel offered spiritual enrichment and she enjoyed many friendships among its congregants.
Graveside services will be June 10, at 11:00 a.m. at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery followed by a gathering at Westside Community Chapel.
