Augustus “Steve” J. Russo, 93, of Fairmount, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at University Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Sunday, January 25, 1920, He was the son of Vincent and Frances Russo. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and graduate of Vocational High School. Steve retired from General Electric Co. in 1982 after 33 years. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and member of the West End Survivors Club. An avid sports fan, he coached the All Nationals Football Team. Gardening was his passion and he was a great handyman. He enjoyed tinkering with almost anything. Steve was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Quinto and Mary Bova. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Connie Cimilluca; daughters, Frances Ellen (Bernie) Foeillet and Mary Ann (Bob McGraw) Russo, both of Syracuse; grandchildren, Brianna McGraw and Dominique Foeillet; honorary family, Brian (Kelly) DeSocio, Brian (Rose) Martens, Jenna Martens, Anthony Martens and Joseph DeSocio, all of Syracuse; sisters, Josephine (Carmen) Spoto of North Carolina and Fay Militi of Syracuse; brothers, Charles (Lola) Russo of Syracuse, Paul (Barbara) Russo of South Carolina, James "Junior" Russo of Syracuse and Sam "Sonny" (Rita) Russo of Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, February 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday, February 11 at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Steve will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery.
