Arvinder “Robin” K. Chima, 74, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Saturday at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Jalandhar, Punjab, India, her journey led her to the Syracuse area in 1982. In India, Robin earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Punjab, and continued her pursuit of knowledge as she attained a Master's Degree in Social Work from All India Institute of Mental Health. In Syracuse, she furthered her education at Syracuse University where she earned another Master’s Degree in Social Work.
For 24 years, Robin served as a psychiatric social worker at the Onondaga County Dept. of Mental Health, where her dedication and expertise touched countless lives. Her compassion, empathy, and advocacy were instrumental in providing support and care to those in need. Robin was a member of the Sikh Temple-Gurdwara of Syracuse, where she found solace and spiritual fulfillment. She was deeply committed to her faith and cherished the sense of community and fellowship it provided.
In her leisure time, Robin found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and had a passion for travel. Robin also enjoyed gardening. Above all, she treasured moments spent with her family and grandchildren.
Robin was predeceased by her parents, Shamsher and Parkash Bajwa; and sister-in-law, Fedra Goldoost.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Jasbir S. of Camillus; sons, Shaan S. of Miami, FL, Ron S. (Rina) of Lewisberry, PA, and John S. (Rebecca) of Farmington, NY; daughter, Rittu K. (Andrew) Stopherd of Seattle, WA; brothers, Brijinder S. Bajwa and Manjit I.S. (Nancy) Bajwa, both of Brisbane, Australia; grandchildren, Karina, Raj, Sonal, Asha, Grayson, Jordan, Sophia, Jack, and Emma; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A cremation service will follow at Oakwood Cemeteries Crematorium, 940 Comstock Ave., Syracuse (across the street from the main office of the cemetery) at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the Sikh Temple-Gurdwara of Syracuse, 4632 Wetzel Rd., Liverpool at noon.Saturday, March 9, 2024
