Arthur J. Tickner, Jr., 72, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the VA Medical Center. Art “Artie” was born in Syracuse on October 11, 1947. He was in the first graduating class out of Corcoran High School in 1965. Art served his country in the Vietnam War and was a decorated soldier in the Army upon retiring. After retirement, Art was employed with Terpening Trucking Co., where he worked for several years before moving onto ExxonMobil as a truck driver and dispatcher. Art loved spending time with family, reading, was an avid golfer and enjoyed riding his motorcycle whenever he could. Art was also known for his easy laugh and comical sarcasm.
Art was predeceased by his father, Arthur; step-father, Jack; and brother, John.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Joan; daughters, Jennifer (Derek) Sholly of Warners and Heather Tickner of Syracuse; grandson, Derek Tickner of Syracuse; mother, Elizabeth Tickner Brolan of E. Syracuse; sisters, Judith (Floyd) Bombardo of Cleveland, NY and Cynthia (Bill) Hooven of E. Syracuse; brothers, William (Jean) Tickner of Brewerton and Martin Tickner of Orlando, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private at this time. Calling hours and a celebration of Art’s life will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minoa at a later date for family and friends.
