Arlene (Smith) Volcko, 84, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, she moved to the United States in 1957. A graduate of Weston Collegiate High School, Arlene received her associate’s degree from OCC. She worked for Gallinger Real Estate for over 20 years, retiring as a corporate office manager and previously worked for Smith Corona for over 10 years. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and volunteered at Upstate University Hospital for many years. An avid golfer, Arlene enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and traveling, especially to her family camp at Sandy Pond where she would canoe with her dog “Coco.” Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Arlene was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Grace Smith; and stepfather, Rick Broestler.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Edward; daughter, Karen (Ronald) Dudzinski of Baldwinsville; son, Douglas (Ann Marie Ballard) of Marcellus; grandchildren, Andrea (Avi Zacherman) Dudzinski and Nick Dudzinski; sister, Sandra Willman of Ocala, FL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Arlene’s family would like to thank the staff at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place, especially Unit 2 for their loving care and compassion given to her.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 6 at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Arlene will be laid to rest at Kingdom Rd. Cemetery, Memphis.
