Antonio "Tony" Simonelli

April 17, 1921 — August 30, 2008

Antonio Tony Simonelli, 87, of the village of Camillus, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Campobasso, Italy on Sunday, April 17, 1921, he was the son of Eustace Simonelli and Louise Padavano Simonelli. He had lived in the Syracuse area since 1933. He was employed by General Motors Corp. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1983. Tony was a veteran of World War II and member of the VFW in Camillus. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, walking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Tony was predeceased by his sisters, Carmela Mazur, Ella "Bidgie" Tambroni and Mary Buonvecchio. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Elizabeth Bette Pozella; daughter and son-in-law, Bernadette and Ross Gaiteri of Baltimore, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Helen Simonelli of Camillus; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Richard Speach of Constantia and Theresa and Joseph Losito of Florida; grandchildren, Alison Simonelli (Andy) Hider, Jennifer Gaiteri (Scott) Remeis and Roni Gaiteri; great-grandchildren, Mason, Jaxon and Emerson; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many, many dear friends. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus with Rev. Michael Grinnals officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. Contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Neo-Natal Unit, 301 Prospect Ave., Syracuse, NY 13203.
