Anthony “Tony” J. Pensabene, 85, of Camillus, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was born on Monday, October 25, 1926, and was the son of Anthony Pensabene and Virginia Eanio Pensabene. He lived in Camillus since 1969. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Tony retired in 2010 after 27 years as deputy sheriff with the Onondaga County Court House and previously worked at Bellevue Country Club and Walter White’s Restaurant. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and horse racing, especially spending time at Saratoga Race Track. Tony was predeceased by his wife, the former Virginia Joyce Cooper on 12/11/2003; and son, Anthony Jay Pensabene, in 1973. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Marisa and Shawn Gardner of Wellsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Alan and Gina of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Andrew of Camillus; grandchildren, Natalie and Trevor Gardner, Corry, Cassidy, Allie, and Aaron Pensabene; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, May 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Friday, May 18 at 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Tony will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery.
