Anne M. (Mullaney) Piazza, 103, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, April 29, 2014 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Anne Immigrated to the United States from Ireland at the age of 17. She married Salvatore Piazza, the love of her life, on April 26, 1934, and settled in Staten Island where they were parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Church. Anne was well known for her exquisite garden, delicious holiday cookies and the hand knit sweaters she made for her family. In 2003, Anne relocated to Syracuse to live with her daughter and son-in-law. In 2010, she celebrated her 100th birthday and enjoyed her unforgettable party complete with bagpiper and Irish singers. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, love of family, sense of humor and faith in God and devotion to the Catholic Church. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore Piazza, in 1973; daughter, Mary Patricia Peters, in 1988; as well as her parents; brothers and sisters. Surviving are her daughter, Lucia (Benedict) Sander of Syracuse; grandchildren, Kenneth Peters, Kathy Ford and Rachel Sander; great-grandchildren, Meredith Croy, Meghan Peters, Kaitlyn and Kevin Ford; and many nieces and nephews. Anne became known as "Grandma" to many when she moved to the Syracuse area and will be sadly missed by those who welcomed her as if they had known her all her life. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers who have shown such compassion and provided tender care for Anne. She called them her "Angels." There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Anne will be laid to rest 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 5 in Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island.
