Anna "Ann" Tousley, 72, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital on Friday with her beloved husband of 29 years, Tom, by her side. Born in Seneca Falls, Ann spent her early childhood in Iceland, her mother’s native land, and then in Iran, pursuant to her father’s assignments as comptroller for a contractor in those countries. She learned to speak Icelandic and Farsi during those early years, and later in life studied French, Italian, and Spanish.
The family returned to this country and settled in Camillus, where Ann graduated from West Genesee High School and Syracuse University. She went on to a long career with New York Telephone Company (later known as Verizon), where she met her husband.
After retirement in 1994 Ann studied American Sign Language in order to work with the deaf, and volunteeered many hours each week with the Alzheimer’s Association. She was a skilled crafter, especially in crocheting and cross stitch, and made beautiful gifts for her friends and family. She and Tom loved to travel and saw most of the world by land and sea, returning several times to their favorite Italy.
Surviving are her husband Thomas; father, Adrian Scusa of Syracuse; two step-children, Amy (Marty) of Maple Grove, MN and Tony (Suzanne) of Golden, CO; and four step-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, August 29 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at noon at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ann’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Salvation Army or Disabled American Veterans.
