Anita Salerno

March 19, 1931 — January 24, 2022

Anita Salerno, of Marcellus, passed away Monday and is being ushered home on the 21st anniversary of her husband Al’s death. Ushering was a fond activity she enjoyed for over 25 years at the Landmark, the Civic Center, Syracuse Stage, and on occasion at the Empire Theater at the State Fair. Attending plays at The Red House and Merry-Go-Round Playhouse was another favorite pleasure. To her many usher friends, this is goodbye, break-a-leg, and the show must go on.

Prior to all the theater connections, Anita had a career beginning with the State Insurance Fund, the State University College of Medicine, the Division of Parole, followed by her involvement in her husband’s business, Syracuse Scale. Again, she acquired and enjoyed many faithful long-term friendships from these associations. Anita loved to travel. Some of her most memorable trips included Travel to Scale Conventions in many parts of the United States, trips to Italy, Hawaii, and Florida, as well as several Geddes Seniors’ Club bus trips. Her other love was crafts and she was an accomplished crafter.

Anita is predeceased by her husband, Albert Salerno; and her brothers, Richard and Silvio Salvagni.

Surviving are her son, Douglas (Shirley) of Florida; brother, Edward (Janet) Salvagni of Camillus; and several nephews and nieces.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated, Friday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A burial is planned for the spring at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Landmark Theatre, 362 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13202 or to the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse 6877 E. Lake Rd., Auburn, NY 13021.
