Alma C. Derby Ballester, 84, of Camillus, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Crouse Hospital. Born in Syracuse, she was raised in Jordan and lived in Camillus since 1964. Alma retired from the West Genesee School District after five years and was formerly employed by the Merchants Mutual Casualty Insurance. Co. An active band parent with the West Genesee marching bands, she also enjoyed walking and playing Bunco. She formerly enjoyed horseback riding and bowling. Her special interests included spending time with her family and grandchildren. Alma was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Frank, in 2005. Surviving are her daughters, Lou Anne (Jim) Schreyer of Camillus, Lynn (Ed) Rockwell of Marietta, Anne (Leonard) Aviles of Syracuse and Patty Ballester of Camillus; sisters, Joan Miller of Camillus and Pauline Caslake of Phoenix, AZ; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Monday, December 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 31 from the funeral home and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated.
