Alice D. Karlander, 83, of Liverpool, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at University Hospital. Born in Schoharie to Leon and Louise Groff, she lived in Cairo, NY for most of her life before moving to Liverpool in 2011. Alice retired after many years as a home health aide and previously worked 25 years for Becker Electronics. She was a member of the Senior Citizen's Club in Cairo. She enjoyed watching soap operas but most of all loved spending time with her family. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Oscar, in 2009; and sisters, Janet Groff, Gloria Remley, Virginia Houle, and Evelyn Helmedach. Surviving are her beloved daughter, Yvonne (Steve) Zacharek of Cicero; sister, Pauline Jaycox of Cairo; brother, Charles Groff of Elka Park; grandchildren, Jeremy Zacharek of Cocoa, FL and Heather (Ryan) York of Liverpool; great-grandchildren, Rylee and Madison; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in Cairo in the spring at a later time to be announced. Burial will follow in Cairo Village Cemetery, Cairo.
