Marcus was an extraordinary man, a talented artisan, having designed stained glass which hang in many homes and businesses in Central New York. He was a collector of memorabilia and a friend to many. He was well known for his sense of humor and personal commentaries on a wide variety of topics. After his diagnosis with cancer, an amazing group of friends put together a benefit in his honor. His family sends their appreciation to all who sent their love to Marcus, by both attending and contributing to the benefit. His friends and family continued their support until his death. Marcus's family is appreciative of the compassionate care provided by so many staff members at Hospice of CNY and HOACNY.

Marcus was predeceased by his father, Rein Varik.

Susan Sauro Wolfram

Sue, “Susie”, “Susie Sunshine” Wolfram passed away peacefully on Thursday May 9, 2013 after a brief battle with breast cancer. Born in Syracuse on October 27, 1967, she was the daughter of proud parents, Isadore and Rosalind Sauro and was a graduate of West Genesee High School.

If God were to make the perfect blend of smile, love and infectious laughter, His model would be “Susie Sunshine.” “Hi, honey !” was Susie’s favorite way of welcoming family and friends as she hugged everyone. Her ability to decorate her home reflected that same warmth, only to be outdone by family meals prepared with care and a touch of style that only Susie possessed. She loved to entertain her friends and family and, most importantly, loved to share a laugh.

Sue married her best friend and love, Ron Wolfram, and together they opened a pizza shop in Camillus (“Zaahs”) that became a staple in the area for many years, in part, because of Susie’s ability to make everyone feel welcome and special. After the birth of her two beautiful girls, she went back to work at Stonehedge School in the West Genesee School District where she truly enjoyed going to work each day to see all of her kids until her passing. She was a member of the West Genesee P.T.A. at Stonehedge.

In addition to raising her family which she was so proud of, Susie was the president of her golf league and played BUNKO with her close friends. Actively involved in West Genesee lacrosse, she attended her daughters’ lacrosse games and served on the John Pepper Tournament Committee. She went to SU basketball games, and was known as a second mother to her nieces and nephews, exemplifying the true meaning of “family”. She constantly offered them rides to and from school, attending their sporting events, consoling them in the most difficult of moments and celebrating their triumphs.

Sue was predeceased by her father, Isadore Sauro, in 1995.

Surviving Susie Sunshine are her husband of 23 years, Ronald of Camillus; daughters, Olivia (18) and Claire (16), both of Camillus; mother, Rosalind (Bill) McDevitt of Fayetteville; brothers, Steven (Lisa) Sauro of Camillus and David Sauro of Marcellus; sisters, Dawn (Tom) Huegel of Camillus and Sheryl (Greg) O'Halloran of Mississauga, Ontario; sister-in-law, Hanna (Jim) Pecori of Syracuse; brother-in-law, Herbert (Eleanor) Wolfram of Camillus; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends may call Monday, May 13 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 303 Kasson Rd., Camillus, with Rev. Robert Freund officiating. Entombment will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Susan’s memory to Stonehedge P.T.A., 400 Sanderson Dr., Camillus, NY 13031.

Marie Emmi Mangano

Marie Emmi Mangano, who was equally at ease behind the counter of a Liverpool farm stand or in a New York City opera house, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 after a brief illness. She found beauty in nature, which she spread as the subject of her award-winning paintings. She found joy in a resplendent holiday table crowded with family in the Camillus home she designed. She found peace in her faith.

Marie, 83, was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore (Sam) and her son, Michael.

She was born on Syracuse's Northside, though spent much of her youth on her grandparents' Chittenango muck farm, balancing her time between piano lessons and picking onions. In an era of limited opportunity and cultural bias, she earned degrees from Syracuse University, while spending weekends and summers at her family's Emmi's Farm Stand in Liverpool. She became a biology teacher in the Baldwinsville School District, but her real calling was as a wife and homemaker, and her true laboratory was her kitchen. While mainly known for her weekly batch of bread and springtime strawberry festivals, it was her sponge cake that took the grand prize at the 1978 New York State Fair, winning her the cutting edge appliance of the day, a new microwave oven.

Romance came to her in the old world way when, on a visit to his Sicilian home town, her father identified Salvatore as a young man who would be a fitting suitor. Letters and photos crossed the Atlantic. A match became a marriage of 55 years.

She was generous with her time, talents and treasures to many causes, particularly the parishes where her family worshipped. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church.

Marie is survived by her brother, Carmen Emmi, and her sons, Rocco (Roberta) Mangano and Anthony (Christi) Mangano; her daughters, Rosemary (Alberto) Bianchetti and Angelina (Vincent) Falotico; family friend Kathy (Essig) Chiodo; and her grandchildren, Maria, David, Salvatore (and his fiancée, Brianna), Elena, Emily, Julianna, Tess, Anthony, Maria Teresa and Grace. Marie also had aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Central New York and abroad.

Marie's family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by family and friends and the health professionals at Crouse Hospital and Syracuse Home.

Relatives and friends may call Friday, May 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

Services will be at noon Saturday, May 11 at the funeral home and at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Church. Entombment will be in the Sunset Atrium, Woodlawn Mausoleum, Syracuse.

Contributions may be made to Joseph's House, care of Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, N.Y. 13219.
