Patrick James Ennis, 68, formerly of Syracuse, passed away on September 15, 2016 in San Jose, Burgos, Spain, while on a great adventure walking the Camino de Santiago with his friend, Roger.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Dehm) Ennis. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Pat was a graduate of the Cornell University Farrier Program and worked as a farrier for 50 years in New York, Colorado and Texas. At the age of 66, Pat's career culminated when he became a certified journeyman farrier, the highest level certification available from the American Farrier's Association.
Pat had a great love for his family, friends, travel and adventure. He considered his friends as family because he never met a stranger. He had a beautiful way of helping everyone and appreciating how important love is in order to live a happy life.
Pat was predeceased by his daughter, Megan Ennis.
Surviving are his loving wife of 16 years, Kathryn of Denton, Texas; son, Steven Ennis of Miami, FL; daughters, Karen (Mark) Czerniel of Marcellus and Melissa (Charles) Frisch of Syracuse; grandsons, Nathan, Brandon and Connor Czerniel; brothers, Jack (Deborah) and Tom (Debra); many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved sharing time and stories with; Pat's step-family that had come to know and love him, Jim (Elizabeth) Fyffe, Sara (Darren) Hammerle, Tabitha Davies and Kyle (Alex) Davies; and their children, James, Anna, Charles, Sofia, and Blake.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, September 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 30 at 9:30 a.m. in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse. Pat will be laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pat's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 344 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
